Startup Qatar Investment Programme launched for startups

Qatar Development Bank has announced the launch of its Startup Qatar Investment Programme, which provides funding and assistance to tech startups seeking to establish or expand operations in Qatar.

The investment programme is a platform recently unveiled by the Investment Promotion Agency (Invest Qatar), which aims to promote Qatar as a major hub for startups. Further aims include attracting and retaining talent to bolster and support the States entrepreneurship ecosystem, fostering innovation and accelerating technology adoption in a bid to contribute to a sustainable and business friendly economy.

Startup Qatar is specifically designed to empower startups that focus on innovative business ideas, which demonstrate an ability to solve real world challenges and successfully meet the needs of the Qatari market. The programme focuses on supporting knowledge based companies who can contribute to the development of the States economy. It is targetting the development of technology in Qatar’s educational, financial, sports, agricultural, health and real estate sectors. Furthermore, it aims to foster growth across industries such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, Internet of Things and big data.

Most importantly, The ‘Startup Qatar’ initiative will offer a broad array of facilitation support, which includes providing specialised training and technical guidance. Meanwhile, support with business establishment will be provided in collaboration with the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) in accordance with international standards. Further incentives will include free business registration and license renewal for new startups as well as a five year tax waiver. Shared office space in one of Qatar’s leading local incubators, accommodation benefits and free Entrepreneur Visas complete the list.
