Qatar’s tech sector boosts dynamic digital economy

21/01/24

Qatar is positioning itself as a central technological hub by connecting global stakeholders in advanced technology, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and innovation.

In a recent panel discussion entitled ‘Building a Digital Economy: Is Your Country Future Ready?’, experts highlighted the Global Launch of the 2023 Future Readiness Economic Index (FREI). This is a special report commissioned by Google and produced by the Descartes Institute in cooperation with the Communications Regulatory Authority.

The report provides a global measurement of future readiness for digital transformation in 124 countries. In order to rank countries, it evaluates key aspects including relevant policies, ICT infrastructure, frameworks and regulations. As a result, it serves as a crucial resource for governments, businesses and analysts, offering comprehensive metrics to evaluate digital transformation readiness. The 2023 edition highlights digital readiness across the world with Singapore, Denmark and Switzerland leading the way.

Moreover, the initiative aligns with Qatars commitment to foster a dynamic and diverse digital economy. The State already provides platforms including the Doha Forum for engaging with thought leaders, while the recent partnership with the Web Summit will see its conference staged in Qatar from 2024 to 2029. Such collaborations will further support Qatars ecosystem by driving the advancement of digital technology as a catalyst for the country`s economic diversification ambitions of becoming a knowledge based economy.

The State has already successfully made the transition of leveraging advanced technology to modernise communication and information exchange as part of their preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022. Furthermore, Qatar hosts Microsoft and Google regional hubs and future government priorities include initiatives to boost the cloud market and the development of artificial intelligence.
