Qatars MoCI and Invest Qatar discuss private sector challenges

17/11/24

Qatars Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) recently joined forces with Invest Qatar to host the second annual Government Sector Forum. The Forum was attended by key government officials and saw participation from over 50 representatives from 26 different government agencies.

Most importantly, this collaborative event aimed to assess the previous year's achievements and outlined a progressive plan to improve the private sector. It also underscored MoCI's commitment to enhancing Qatar's business environment and strengthening the country’s economic competitiveness in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Furthermore, the forum highlighted Qatar’s growth across various economic sectors, with a particular focus on the government's strategic initiatives to empower the private sector. These efforts are designed to drive economic growth and position the private sector as a key contributor to the national economy. A central discussion point was the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, which emphasizes bold reforms to improve the business environment, accelerate economic diversification and foster private sector leadership.

As a result, MoCI's vision is to foster an environment that empowers the private sector to thrive, enabling the government to focus its resources on fostering innovation, improving competitiveness, and streamlining service delivery. A key theme was the importance of continued collaboration between the public and private sectors. MoCI reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships, removing regulatory barriers and supporting sustainable business growth, in line with Qatar’s long-term economic goals.

Invest Qatar also presented a comprehensive overview of the country’s investment climate and the significant regulatory improvements made to enhance Qatar’s business environment over the past year. In turn, MoCI followed with an update on the Roundtable Project, identifying both the challenges and opportunities for growth through continued intergovernmental cooperation.
